Four Mount Pleasant High School future educators attended the virtual Educators Rising National Conference from June 24-27. Mount Pleasant High School junior Monserrat Rivero Sanchez achieved the last of her goals for the 2020-2021 school year—to win a national award for her PreK Children’s book. Rivero Sanchez earned her trip to Nationals by placing in the Top 5 at the state competition earlier in March. In the end, her book placed in the top 10 in the nation out of 60 entries, qualifying her as a semifinalist.

The book, titled “A Surprise for Milo”, is an age-appropriate explanation of a new addition to a mouse family and the excitement and anticipation that can bring to young children. Her book includes handmade finger puppets that represent the characters in the story.

Also qualifying and representing MPHS at nationals were 2021 graduates Daniela Robles and Mirka Soto with their children’s literature book and junior Marcela Mata with her interactive bulletin board.

“I am so proud of all my girls for their hard work and dedication to their projects and this wonderful educator organization,” said MPHS Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE) advisor, Aimee Sweeden. “They worked hard, long hours and dedicated half of their summer preparing for this competition. I couldn’t be prouder of these aspiring educators as they are already planning events for next year!”
