The Mount Pleasant Tiger golf team advanced to the Regional Tournament held in Rockwall last week and placed in the top of half of all the teams in the region.  The tournament was held at the Rockwall Golf and Athletic Club on April 21 and 22 as the Tigers finished in 8th place out of the 16 teams at the event. Without any senior leadership, nerves and pressure got the best of the Tigers on day one, shooting their worst round of the year at 349.  Playing against some of the best teams in the state, the Tigers’ team of three juniors and two sophomores, took some time to finally settle in and just play golf, sitting in tenth place at the end of the day.  The second day was a different story as nerves settled and confidence took hold with the team shooting a total of 326, 23 strokes better than the previous day.  Leading the Tigers with a two-day total was sophomore Matthew Peterson at 159.  Sophomore Kade Strickland turned in a 170 and juniors Sam Sloan, Brady Sisk, and George Burrows shot 171, 175, and 177, respectively.   “I was very lucky to have a great group of golfers this year, ” said head coach Benny Blaser.  “They work hard, they got lots of experience, and none of them graduate!”
