Mayra Villarruel was selected by ACT, Inc. as the Wendy’s High School Heisman school winner for Mount Pleasant High School.
Mayra is the daughter of MaryAnn & Julio Villarruel. She is a 4-year member of the Varsity Soccer team, where she was selected Co-Captain for her sophomore and junior seasons. She was chosen for 1st team All District Soccer as a sophomore and a junior and 2nd team All District as a freshman. Mayra has also participated in cross-country and track. She serves as Secretary of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Vice President of FBLA, and Secretary of the Astronomy Club, and is a past member of United By One.
In addition to her extracurricular activities at school, Mayra is involved with Titus County Cares and the Backpacks for Kids program. She is a member of the youth groups at St. Michael’s Catholic Church and Greenhill United Methodist Church.
The leadership award-honorees chosen by ACT are well-rounded young men and women who excel in learning, performing, and leading in the classroom, on the field, and in the community. Students were judged based on their academic achievements, athletic accomplishments, community-leadership, and involvement in various extracurricular activities during grades 9 through 11.
