Mount Pleasant High School Engineering hosted its 3rd annual Vuelos de los Huevos event on Wednesday, October 29 at Sam Parker Stadium. Literally translated as “Flights of the Eggs” the objective of the contest was to build a craft allowing an egg travel as far as possible, without damage, when thrown off the stadium bleachers. This year the contest expanded allowing students from all MPISD campuses to enter.

Rules for the contest included a $5.00 maximum budget, a one meter maximum size in any dimension, and that the egg must be visible and able to be removed with twenty seconds of landing. High School students were required to submit detailed engineering drawings, a final budget accounting, a company name, the name of the eggcraft, and a company motto with a special request for egg puns.

Once the launches were completed, medals were awarded to four “egg”ceptional teams. In the elementary division, from Frances Corprew Elementary School, Cristobal Tapia and Jonathan Barboza’s egg traveled 14 feet and the egg survived. From Wallace Middle School, Laura Ethridge, Diva Desai, and Hayzlie Gonzalez’s eggcraft flew 26 feet and the egg survived. Representing Mount Pleasant Junior High, Jake Jones’s creation traveled 85 feet and the egg survived. And from Mount Pleasant High School, The Eggholes made up of Walter Terrell, Jacob Terrell, and Roger Martinez launched their eggcraft 94.5 feet and the egg survived.

Mount Pleasant High School offers a four-year program in Engineering including Principles of Applied Engineering at the freshman level, Engineering Design and Presentation I and II, and Practicum in STEM.
