MPHS Junior Medals at State Powerlifting Meet
The Mount Pleasant High School Tiger Powerlifters traveled to the 5A Texas High School Powerlifting Association state championships on March 27-28 in Abilene. Six Tigers competed and all six placed in the top 16 in their respective weight classes.
Junior Abraham Buenrostro medaled in 4th place in the Super Heavy Weight Unequipped Division with a squat of 565, bench press 335, and a deadlift of 565 for a total of 1465 pounds.
Also competing for the Tigers was senior Bruno Deleon who finished 9th in the 220’s with a 625 squat, 405 bench press, and 555 dead lift for a total of 1585. Sophomore José Gonzalez finished just behind Deleon in 11th place with a 610 squat, 425 bench press, and 530 dead lift for a total of 1565. Sophomore Jesus Mata finished 13th in the 114’s with a 275 squat, 155 bench press, and 280 dead lift for a total of 710. Junior Isaiah Shepherd finished 15th in the 242’s with a 585 squat, 365 bench press, and 545 dead lift for a total of 1495. And senior Daniel Castillo finished 16th in the 165’s with a 500 squat, 300 bench press, and 455 dead lift for a total of 1255.
The State Meet rounds out the 2026 season for Tiger Powerlifting. The Tigers are coached by Blake Lodes.
