MPHS Band Members Earn UIL State Medals Solo & Ensemble Contest
Thirty-three Mount Pleasant High School Goin’ Gold Band members earned 37 state gold medals at the UIL State Solo and Ensemble contest held in and around the Austin area on May 25-27, up from nine last year. Four students including Jayden Adame, Bryan Garcia, Alfredo Santillan, and Evelyn Whisenhunt earned medals with two different ensembles.
The six MPHS ensembles earning UIL state gold medals, the highest rating given by the judges, include:
Flute Trio “Classic Fantasy” Bryan Garcia (10), Alfredo Santillan (10), Evie Whisenhunt (9)
Flute Choir “All Through the Night” Bryan Garcia (10), Rosali Nino (11), Jennifer Pena (12), Alfredo Santillan (10), Amy Santillan (12), Evie Whisenhunt (9)
Clarinet Choir “Divertimento No. 1” Ana’Liece Guerrero (10), Humberto Damian (11), Neftali Gonzalez (12), Odalys Mejia (10), Diana Ramirez (10), Kaylee Ramos (12), Christopher Sorto (12), Cindy Valle (10)
Brass Sextet “Bartok for Brass” Adriel Bagsic (10), Sebastian Contreras (10), Mario Hernandez (9), Issac Jetton (11), Axel Mata (10), Jesus Mata (9)
Percussion Ensemble “Blue Rondo à la Turk” Jayden Adame (9), Camauri Adams (11), Dalia Balderas (10), Pedro Castillo (10), Armando Molina (11), Aaron Waldrep (9), Francisco Zapata (11)
Percussion Ensemble “UFO Tofu” Jamaree Armour (10), Jayden Adame (9), Ethan Carrillo (11), Natalie Hines (10), Edward Moya (11), Alejandro Rosiles (11), Luke Thurman (12)
The Goin’ Gold Band will now turn its attention to preparations for their 2025 halftime show, “Beetlejuice”. The 2024-2025 MPISD band program has been under the direction of Dr. Theodus Luckett III, Karen Luckett, AJ Garcia, Brian Bass, Chris Richard, and Sheri Sullivan.
