MPHS Choir Students Selected for All-Region Choir
The Mount Pleasant High School Choir participated in the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) All-Region Choir auditions in the Performing Arts Complex at MPHS on Saturday, September 19. Eleven MPHS Choir members earned places and five more were selected as alternates. To earn a place in the choir, each singer had to sing three selections and sight read before a panel of five judges, not an easy task for a high school student.
Those selected include Spencer Anderson (2nd Tenor, chair 5), Avery Brown (2nd Alto, chair 6), Lucas Canales (1st Bass, chair 3), Jayson Carrillo (1st Tenor, chair 3), Hannah Hughes (2nd Alto, chair 7), Elizabeth Liera (1st Soprano, chair 7), Trista Madrid (1st Soprano, chair 2), Keila Mickens (2nd Alto, chair 5), C.J. Quinn (2nd Bass, chair 2), Sara Vanhoose (2nd Alto, chair 2), and Dakota Williams (2nd Tenor, chair 3). Alternates include Axavier Anderson (2nd Bass, 2nd alternate), Josiah Caballero (2nd Tenor, 1st alternate), Maglynn English (2nd Soprano, 2nd alternate), Yoseline Nava (1st Alto, 1st alternate), and Hector Sierra-Rosales (2nd Bass, 1st alternate).
The students who have been selected for the All–Region Choir have advanced to Pre-Area auditions on November 17, which is the next level of competition. The annual All-Region Clinic and Concert will be held on Monday, November 2 with the concert beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Cowan Center at the University of Texas at Tyler.
The MPHS Choir is directed by Nancy Vines and assisted by Joshua Miles with accompaniment provided by Deanna Warren.
