MPHS Anglers Close Regular Season on Lake Tawakoni, Five Qualify for Regionals
The Mount Pleasant High School Bass Fishing Team finished the regular season at the Texas High School Bass Association (THSBA) tournament on Lake Tawakoni on Saturday, March 28. MPHS had nine boats competing with five of those reeling in catches.
First for the Tigers, Kamen and Khloe Dunn finished 16th out of 146 boats with 5 fish weighing 14.53 lbs. Major McCoo reeled in 3 fish weighing 7.26 lbs. in 64th. The team of Joseph Bell and Logan Holderness finished in 81st place with 2 fish weighing 4.95 lbs. And Xzavien Loewen and Blake Humber came in 102nd with 1 fish weighing 1.59 lbs. Also competing for the Tigers were Macon Bailey and Brian Derrick, Garrett Brown and Lance Albin, Gunner and Case Rodgers, Brady Cook and Hunter Wills, and Donald Cole and Xavier Enciso.
Anglers earned points throughout the season for the number and weight of their catches, and the accumulated points were used to determine the regional qualifiers. For the Tigers, Kamen and Khloe Dunn qualified for the regional tournament and are in the running for Angler of the Year, currently in 5th place overall out of 174 boats. Also qualifying for regionals were the team of Joseph Bell and Logan Holderness, and Major McCoo.
The Nautical Mile Marine Regional is scheduled for May 2 at Lake O’ the Pines where anglers will be fishing to qualify for the state tournament at the end of May. And the nominees for Angler of the Year will compete on June 27 on Lake Tyler.
