All six Mount Pleasant ISD Winter Guard teams traveled to Hallsville High School for the final Four States Performing Arts Association contest, the FSPAA Championships, on Saturday, March 28. To qualify for Championships, a guard must have participated in a preliminary competition earlier in the season. In addition, two MPHS seniors were presented scholarships to further their educations.

The Mount Pleasant Junior Guard from Mount Pleasant Junior High placed 1st again in the Cadet division, almost three full points ahead of the 2nd place team. They were also named the overall division champions for the season and won the Crowd Favorite award for their show based on the movie, Coraline. The Junior Guard has won their division in every contest they have attended this season.

The JV Junior Guard placed 3rd in their division, just .5 behind 2nd place. They have placed in the top three at every competition they have participated in this season.

Mount Pleasant High School Onyx placed 2nd in the Regional A classification. Onyx has placed in the top two at every competition they have attended this season.

The Mount Pleasant High School Varsity Guard placed 3rd in the Scholastic A classification and has placed in the top three all season.

And the Wallace Middle School Winter Guard placed in the top three for the first time all season, earning 3rd place medals in the Cadet division.

In addition, two MPHS seniors were awarded scholarships for their participation in Colorguard and Winter Guard activities. Senior Esme Perez received a $500 scholarship from the Four States Performing Arts Association. And senior Aaliyah Gholston received a scholarship from the Tyler Junior College Touch of Gold Colorguard.

The MPISD Colorguard program will now turn its attention to tryouts for the 2026-2027 year. The High School Guards are under the direction of Marty Newman, the Junior Guards are directed by Peyton McClendon, and the Wallace Middle School Winter Guard is under the direction of Gracie McClendon.
