The Mount Pleasant Boys cross country team ran in the Sulphur Springs Invitational last weekend bringing home a third-place finish. After notching their first meet title at Pine Tree in the previous week, the Tigers still performed well as they continue to tune up for the district meet to be held at Hallsville Oct 14. Mount Pleasant bested all their district opponents participating in the meet with 95 team points to Hallsville’s 113 points, Pine Tree’s 125 points, Sulphur Springs’ 148 points, and Texas High’s 207 points.

Johnathan Sandate and Geovanni Calderon led the Tigers with a fourth and fifth place finish, respectively. Sandate ran 16:27.6 while Calderon was close behind with a 16:30.3. Gilberth Landaverde finished in 20th place running a 17:24.5 and Christopher Escobar came across in 25th at 17:36.8. Other finisher for the varsity boys were Aundre Alaniz (41st, 18:23.7), Sahir Ramirez (55th, 18:54.9), Jacob Botello (56th, 19:00.8), and Esteban Trejo (62nd, 20:34).

The junior high boys also performed nicely with a fourth-place team finish. Enrique Marrufo led the squad with a third-place overall finish at 11:33 two-mile run. Gilbely Landaverde finished 13th at 12:27.2 and Charlie Hernandez finished just inside the top 20 at 19th place with a time of 12:47.4. Other finishers for the junior high boys were Conley Johnson (36th, 13:36.5), Kevin Pineda (55th, 14:47.5), Josiah Flores (56th, 14:51.1), Isaac Hernandez (57th, 15:47.1), and Jacob Luna (61st, 16:12.9).

The JV boys finished fifth overall with freshman Aiden Botello posting a team best 4th place finish and time of 18:44.1. David Buendia finished in 8th place at 19:13.9 while Juan Retana placed 12th at 19:36.9. Other finishers were Jesus Santiago (58th, 22:30.9), Saul Alvarado (59th, 22:46.9), and Skylar Guereca (63rd, 23:51).

The JV girls finished in sixth place overall as Karen Hernandez paced the Lady Tigers at 15th place and a time of 14:54.5. Cynthia Ramirez came in at 27th and 15:59.3 while Giselle Delgado finished 33rd at 16:30. Other finishers were Leilani Jimenez (44th, 17:08.7) and Giselle Arellano (47th, 19:41.4).

The final group to compete was the junior high Lady Tigers who finished fourth overall. Marybeth Snyder had the best individual finish at 17th with a time of 14:45.7. Dominique Gil was close behind with a 20th place finish at 14:59. Other finishers were Ryleigh Mendez (34th, 16:43.4), Alin Alvarado (35th, 16:46.6), Atalee Gonzalez (52nd, 19:29.4), Wendy Valdez (54th, 20:07.3), and Diana Ramirez (55th, 20:30.2).

Both the high school and junior high Tigers and Lady Tigers will compete again this Saturday in Mount Pleasant at Sam Parker Field.
