After a third-place finish in district and a playoff run that saw the Lady Tigers advance to the Area round, Mount Pleasant was recently honored with ten athletes being named to the All-District team. Head coaches within in the district select the awards given to the top players in the district.
Defensive Player of the Year went to senior infielder Carson Zachry. Zachry played all over the diamond and notched 30 putouts and 46 assists. She was also one of the top offensive players for the Lady Tigers, but it was her defense that set the tone during season. The Lady Tigers captured another superlative with senior BreAsia Hargrave garnering Pitcher of the Year honors. Hargrave led Mount Pleasant in wins(12), innings pitched(105), and strikeouts(99) all while posting a 3.18 earned run average. She held opposing batters to a .265 average and spun 14 complete games out of her 20 starts.
First Team All-District honors went to senior outfielder Jalissa Alvarez, freshman second baseman and pitcher Conlee Zachry, sophomore outfielder Paris Beard, and sophomore utility player Jordyn Hargrave. Alvarez posted a .398 batting average on the season including 4 home runs and a team-high 34 runs batted in. She also recorded 33 outs in the outfield and a fielding percentage of .902. Zachry burst on to the varsity scene this season starting nine games in the circle for a 7-3 record and a team-best 3.04 earned run average. She also held her own at the plate with a .348 batting average and .422 on base percentage. Beard was awarded first team designated player with a .387 batting average and a team-high 9-for-10 effort in stolen bases. Hargrave was first team utility player as she played in both the infield and outfield. She posted a .355 batting average while slugging .462.
Second Team All-District awards went to freshman infielder A’Mariya Miller, freshman outfielder Ella Cross, and freshman catcher Morgan Hill. Miller held down the hot corners and posted a .341 batting average with 25 runs batted in, the second highest total on the team. Cross posted a .348 batting average and slugged .533 in her rookie campaign. Hill was a wall behind the plate while posting a .318 batting average and driving in 23 runs.
Freshman Casey Jones was awarded honorable mention with her performance in the circle and at the plate. She went 2-1 in her three starts and hit for power with a .657 slugging percentage.
The future is bright for the Lady Tigers next season as many of these award winners will be returning next season. Mount Pleasant will look to continue their success and improve upon this year’s 21-11 finish.
