MPHS UIL Advances to Regional Academic Meet
The Mount Pleasant High School UIL Academic team competed in the District 15-5A UIL Academic Meet on March 28-29 at Whitehouse High School. Overall, 9 MPHS students advanced to the Regional Meet in 6 events with many others placing in their events.
Team members advancing to Regionals include:
Spelling (1st place team) Brissia Alvarez 1st, Jennifer Luna 2nd, Karen Hernandez 4th, Wendy Valdez 5th
Calculator Applications (2nd place team) Luke Thurman 2nd, Yahaira Piña 4th, Tanner Marshall 5th, Julian Chancellor 6th
Mathematics (2nd place team) Luke Thurman 2nd, Yahaira Piña 4th, Gopi Amin 6th, Tanner Marshall
Ready Writing Brissia Alvarez 3rd
Copy Editing Brissia Alvarez 2nd
Editorial Writing Jennifer Luna 2nd, Brissia Alvarez 3rd
Also placing in their events and alternates to regionals are Evelyn Hernandez 6th place in Ready Writing, Luke Brown 6th place in Spelling, Brissia Alvarez 4th place in Headline Writing, Evelyn Hernandez 6th place in Headline Writing.
Advancing teams and individuals will compete at the Regional Meet to be held April 25-26 at Walnut Grove High School in Prosper. Those placing in the top 3 in each event will qualify for the State meet in May. Regional qualifying coaches are Gina Crouch (Spelling), Osias Hernandez (Calculator Applications and Mathematics), John Whitten (Journalism), and Kim Cox (Ready Writing).
