MPHS senior Isaac Hernandez was elected to lead the entire state of Texas chapter of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) at the end of July.

Initially, Hernandez had won the election for State Area 6 Vice President in March. However, the office of State President was vacated this summer which led to a new election. The remaining state officers and state Vice Presidents nominated officers for the position. Hernandez was among three nominees and after two run-off elections, he was elected President for the entire state of Texas chapter. He will hold both President and Area 6 Vice President duties concurrently.

Hernandez becomes the first MPHS student to lead Texas FBLA as President and the fifth-ever state officer representative from MPHS.

“My FBLA story began my sophomore year of high school,” said Hernandez. “When I first joined FBLA, I thought I would simply ‘check it out’; however, I quickly fell in love with it. I competed in Business Ethics and placed 2nd at area and qualified for state. I knew I wanted to grow further within FBLA, so I became more involved the following year. In my junior year, I had the honor of serving Mount Pleasant FBLA as the Parliamentarian. As the year went on, I grew closer to FBLA as a whole. I would spend time with the rest of the officer team planning and preparing for our Area Workshop. While at the area workshop, I earned 1st place in our annual Shark Tank competition. I competed in PSA and placed 2nd at area, qualifying me for state once more. Prior to state, my adviser, Mr. John Whitten, told me he wanted me to run for state office. At first, I was hesitant and afraid of the huge responsibility it would be, but he encouraged me. I now have the honor to be a part of an amazing team full of incredible leaders.”

MPHS FBLA Advisors are John Whitten, Shanta Lockett, Tracy Porter, and Raquel Yanez. To join MPHS FBLA, see any advisor for the registration form and look for announcements about the first meeting of the year in early September.
