Four Mount Pleasant High School art students won awards at the 66th Student Invitational art competition and gallery at the Longview Museum of Fine Arts (LMFA). Their pieces will be on display at the LMFA through May 9.

Senior Cassandra Saavedra won the Student Choice Award for her piece, Deception of the Mind, earning her a $50 prize. Senior Ailyen De la Rosa placed 2nd in the mixed media category with her piece, Grandpa, also earning her a $50 prize. And receiving Honorable Mention certificates were senior Dayanara Pulquero for her color drawing, Red, and senior Jaydy Martinez with her black and white drawing, Black and White Stipple.

“This is our first time in this competition, and I am so proud of my students and all their hard work,” said MPS art instructor, Laura Kirkland. “The show will be up until May 9th, so if you are in Longview drop by the LMFA to see all the artwork from several schools from around East Texas.”
