MPHS Freshman Earns National Recognition

Mount Pleasant High School freshman, Luke Thurman, recently earned the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Middle Level Young Leader Award for the state of Texas, one of only seven awards given nationwide. Earlier this year Thurman also received the FBLA Who’s Who award during the Texas State Leadership Conference. He was chosen for the award because of his strong leadership skills, ability to work with others, and his above and beyond spirit and attitude.

Thurman began as a charter member of the Mount Pleasant FBLA Middle Level and has participated for the last three years, serving as President and Project Leader. He played important roles in putting the community service projects together, collecting supplies for the women’s shelter, coats for CASA, suitcases for SAFE-T and ringing the bell for the Salvation Army.

Thurman has competed at the State Leadership Conference for the past two years and placed in his events. He also qualified for the online National Leadership Conference held this year at the end of June.

“I am very proud of Luke for earning this accomplishment,” said Dana Armstrong, FBLA Middle Level advisor. “Since the charter of our chapter, Luke has exemplified all the qualities that are found in a great leader. He will be missed and I know Luke will continue to grow his leadership skills as he continues to be a part of FBLA in high school.”

Thurman will be a freshman at MPHS in 2021-2022 and is the son of Tris and Stephanie Thurman.
