The Mount Pleasant Junior High 7th and 8th grade track teams opened their season on Monday, February 27 at the Junior Tiger Relays at Sam Parker Stadium. The 7th grade and 8th grade Lady Tigers were each named Junior Tiger Relay champions in their respective divisions. The 8th grade boys placed 3rd with the 7th grade boys coming in 4th.

Asia Salters was named the top athlete in 7th grade girls with Kate Gil 4th, Kennedy Jones 6th, and Nevaeh Matthews 9th. Salters won the 100 M Dash with Amari Baker placing 4th. In the 200 M Dash Re’Auna Doddy placed 5th. Matthews came in 2nd in the 400 M Dash with Elizabeth Fernandez just behind in 3rd. In the 800, Courtney Asagba placed 2nd and Fernandez was 4th. Gil won both the 1600 and 2400 with Valerie Rodarte placing 5th in the 2400. In hurdles, Jones placed 2nd in both the 100 M and 300 M Hurdles, with Rodarte coming in 4th and Tenley Marshall placing 6th in the 300. The 4×100 relay team of Salters, Matthews, Maliyah Hammons, and Marshall placed 2nd. The 4×200 relay team of Doddy, Asagba, Gil, and Rayleigh White placed 4th. In the 4×400 relay, the team of Matthews, Hammons, Salters, and Jones came in 2nd. Kenslee Lee placed 2nd in the Shot Put. In the Discus, White came in 3rd and Lee placed 4th. Salters won both the Triple Jump and the High Jump and Asagba took 3rd in the Pole Vault to round out points for the 7th grade Lady Tigers and give them the team championship.

Five of the 8th grade Top Athletes were from MPJH including Anna Norman 2nd, Shannon Hines 3rd, Alexia Hawkins 4th, Natalie Hines 5th, and Mary Beth Snyder 8th. Norman won the 100 M Dash. Hines won the 200 M Dash with Jasani Inostros coming in 2nd. N. Hines placed 4th in the 400. In the 800 it was all MPJH with Daniela Baiza placing 1st, Hawkins 2nd, Aniyah Asagba 3rd, and Melany Morales 5th. Snyder won the 1600 with

Dalia Balderas placing 3rd. Hawkins came in 1st in the 2400 followed by Snyder in 2nd and Balderas 4th. In the hurdles, Aubrey Frazier placed 5th in the 100 with Jaylin Ramirez placing 6th in the 300. The relay team of Norman, Morales, S. Hines, and N. Hines won the 4×100. Edenis Sandoval, Asagba, Morales, and Inostros took 2nd in the 4×200 relay. The relay team of Hawkins, Norman, S. Hines, and N. Hines won the 4×400 relay. N. Hines took 3rd in the Long Jump with S. Hines placing 2nd in the Triple Jump and Norman placing 1st in the High Jump. Natalya Trimble placed 5th in the Shot Put and 4th in the Discus to round out the points for the 8th grade Lady Tigers and give them the team championship.

For the 7th grade Tigers, Seven Duffey placed 2nd in the 100 with Ashton Murphy coming in 5th. In the 400 Hayden Harvill placed 4th. Neryk Moreno won the 2400 with Bryan Carbajal in 3rd and Oskar Nieto placing 6th. Zavian Loewen placed 5th in the 110 hurdles. The relay team of Chris Mendez, Zarek Jiminez, Murphy, and Duffey won the 4×200 relay and placed 3rd in the 4×100. Kolter Silman, Yadel Guzman, Mendez, and Harvill placed 4th in the 4×400 relay. In the Long Jump, Lincoln Dyke placed 6th. Jerrick Howard came in 2nd in the Shot Put with Ryne Mitchell placing 4th. Aydaen Martinez placed 2nd in the Discus with Rowan Jentsch just behind in 3rd. And Ja’Kerrius Veasley placed 4th in the High Jump and Lincoln Dyke placed 6th to round out points for the 7th grade Tigers.

For 8th grade Top Athlete, Conley Johnson was 6th with Eli Mapps 8th and Jeremiah Hurndon 9th for the Tigers. BJ Brannon won the 100 with Hurndon in 3rd. Mapps finished 4th in the 400. Mapps won the 800 followed by Samuel Yoder in 2nd. In hurdles, Cooper Rider placed 2nd in the 110 M and Johnson placed 3rd in the 300 M. The relay team of Adam King, Hurndon, Brandon McCoo, and JaQuacion Veasley took 4th in the 4×100. Hurndon, Sheppard, McCoo, and King placed 2nd in the 4×200. And the team of Johnson, Yoder, Nathan De Santiago, and Mapps won the 4×400. Nehemiah Savage took 3rd in the Shot Put followed by Landon Cheatum in 4th. Sheppard was 2nd in the Discus with Cheatum 5th. Hurndon placed 3rd in the High Jump followed by Mike Vargas in 6th. And Johnson won the Pole Vault with Rider close behind in 2nd place to round out point totals for the 8th grade Tigers.

The Mount Pleasant Junior High track team travels to Sulphur Springs for the Junior Wildcat Relays on Monday, March 6.
