The Lady Tiger Softball team opened the 2022 season with a 9-4 win over Canton Tuesday in the first game at the newly renovated Lady Tiger Field. This was the first game of the season on the new turf surface installed by Mount Pleasant’s own Symmetry Sports Construction and the Lady Tigers’ game play matched the quality of the new field.

After two scoreless innings by both teams, Canton broke the tie with a lone run in the top of the third on a hit and pair of Lady Tiger errors. Mount Pleasant would open their scoring in the home half of the third with a two-out rally. The Lady Tigers capitalized on three straight hits from Kelsey Howard, Kaylee Silman and Amariya Miller. Howard singled and scored, while Silman added an RBI double. Miller followed with a RBI single, pushing the score to 2-1.

Casey Jones doubled to start the bottom half of the fourth inning. She later scored on a stolen base and two Canton errors to increase the Lady Tiger lead to 3-1. Mount Pleasant blew the game open sending eight batters to the plate in the fifth, scoring three runs on three hits. Howard reached on an error, Silman singled and scored and Miller doubled and scored. Jones added an RBI single in the inning extending the lead to 6-1.

The Lady Tigers added three more runs in the sixth, as Arenia Tigert, Howard and Miller all singled and scored in the inning. Jones slapped a 2-RBI double to the fence, extending the Lady Tiger lead to 9-1.

Silman, Miller, and Jones powered the offensive attack with three hits apiece, while Howard slapped two hits and scored three runs. Jenna Cook walked twice in the game. Jordan Andrade picked up the win for the Lady Tigers in the circle. She pitched 6 innings, allowing one unearned run on three hits, and struck out nine.

The Lady Tigers won the JV game 10-7.
