After finishing regular season play, the Mount Pleasant High School Tiger and Lady Tiger golf teams competed in the two-day district tournaments held at the Tempest Golf Club in Gladewater. The boys’ tournament was held March 29-30 and the girls competed on March 31-Apr 1. For the first time in 16 years, the Tiger team of George Burrows, Brady Sisk, Matthew Peterson, Sam Sloan, and Kade Strickland advanced to the regional tournament finishing in second place just behind Texas High. The Lady Tigers fell just short of advancing finishing in third place.
A great first day of the tournament saw the Lady Tigers sitting in first place. A slow start on day two buried the Lady Tigers, and they were never able to recover posting a two-day total of 774 just behind Texas High and Longview. Grelyn Goolsby led Mount Pleasant with a 177 followed by Sophie Greco’s 193. Reese Ball finished at 194 and Isabella Greco brought in a 210.
Sophomore Matthew Peterson and Junior Brady Sisk led the charge for the Tigers shooting a two-day total of 158 each. Sam Sloan finished with a score of 171 and George Burrows turned in a 172. Kade Strickland finished at 175 for a team total of 653. Over the next couple of weeks, the Tigers will fine tune their game before competing in the regional tournament held at Rockwall Golf and Athletic Club on April 21-22. The Tigers are coached by Benny Blaser.
