The Mount Pleasant High School cross country teams competed last Saturday in the Tyler Legacy Invitational meet held on the campus of UT Tyler. The Tigers had four runners finish in the top 20 in their respective events elevating their results from the previous meet. The boys’ varsity team notched their first top three finish overall scoring 100 points. Rockwall Heath and Eustace finished first and second, respectively.
In the Varsity Boys 5K, Daniel Robles finished in 7th place with a time of 16:57 followed closely by Johnathan Sandate’s 14th place finish at 17:23.1. Geovanni Calderon just finished in the top 20 with a 19th place finish at 17:50.4. Other finishers in the varsity race were Christopher Escobar (28th, 18:12.7), Gilberth Landaverde (32nd, 18:32.2), Aundre Alaniz (50th, 19:44.2), and Esteban Trejo (87th, 21:43.9). In the JV Boys 5K, David Buendia finished 20th with a time of 20:55.3 leading the JV team to a fifth-place finish. Other finishers were Jovanny Luna (32nd, 21:42.6), Oscar Otero (35th, 21:47.4), Jose Trejo (40th, 22:01.1), Andrew Gonzalez (53rd, 23:03.2), Peter Zuniga (70th, 24:20.3), Saul Alvarado (76th, 24:51.8), Joaquin Arguello (77th, 25:05.6), Christian Vargas (79th, 25:19.3), Norberto Martinez (83rd, 25:42.2), Jesus Santiago (89th, 26:26.0), Gabriel Garza (101st, 30:39.1), and Noah Trimm (102nd, 31:14.9).
The girls competed in the small school 2K with Araceli Landaverde securing the Lady Tigers top finish in 55th with a time of 14:49.6. Brieanna Gonzales finished 60th at 14:58.3 and Noemi Rios finished 64th at 15:00.7. Other finishers were Abigail Retana (74th, 15:18.7), Vicky Landaverde (78th, 15:24.4), Virginia Landaverde (104th, 15:53.0), Arlette De Jesus (121st, 16:26.5), Cynthia Ramirez (146th, 17:03.3), Giselle Delgado (151st, 17:20.9), Giselle Arellano (177th, 19:35.2), and Audrey Mendoza (184th, 20:13.2).
The Tigers and Lady Tigers will begin their district meets this Saturday at Hallsville. Both the high school and junior high teams will compete. Races should begin around 8:00 AM. The Tigers home meet will be held on Saturday, October 2.
