The Lady Tigers/Tigers saw vast improvement in their individual stats on Thursday night as they clawed their way further up the Regional Rankings.

Lady Tigers:

Araceli Landaverde seized the day and made huge improvements in her overall total. Landaverde’s overall numbers jumped from 325 lbs to 360 lbs, moving her into 7th place in the Region.

Arlette DeJesus kept her hold on the 2nd spot in the Region by lifting a total of 540 lbs.

Jordan West kept a tight hold of her 5th place Regional rank by upping her total from 455 lbs to 465 lbs.

Jasmine Landaverde crushed her previous total of 450 lbs and lifting a new total of 515 lbs moving her from the 22nd spot to the 13th spot in the Region.

Zoe Zittel blasted her precious total of 465 lbs and lifted a new total of 520 lbs, moving her from the 17th spot in the Region to 13th.

Audrie Mendoza broke all her previous records by cruising to a new total of 485 lbs, up 50 lbs from her previous best. She also moved up in the Regional rankings from 21st to 17th.

Alexandra Martinez had her best by far, totaling 730 lbs from a previous total of 695 lbs. She jumped from the 3rd spot in the Regional rankings to the 2nd spot, and putting herself 10 lbs out of 1st place.

Mariana Gonzalez had a phenomenal night, destroying her previous total of 580 lbs and gaining a new total of 650 lbs. With her outstanding effort, she moves from the 15th spot in the Region all the way up to a tie for 8th.

Beth Lockett had a solid performance moving her total from 620 lbs to 645 lbs. Her Regional ranking moved from 21st to 17th.

Xitlaly Sanchez blew away her old record of 365 lbs by setting a new total of 425 lbs. Sanchez is no stranger to powerlifting, as her older sister Laura powerlifted at MP as well. We are looking forward to her competing the next 3 years.

Jenna Cook had an outstanding night as well, leaving her old total in the dust as she increased her total from 645 lbs to 710 lbs. Her awesome night moves her from 9th place in the Region up to 5th place.

McKinsee Oviedo set a new personal record of 760 lbs, moving her into a tie for 2nd place in the Regional standings.

Nayelli Jaimes extended her lead in the Regional standings by increasing her total to 865 lbs and solidly securing her 1st place spot. Jaimes is looking to try and make this season a 3rd straight trip to the State Meet.

Tigers:

In the 123 class, Jayden Mendez finished with a 605 lb total good enough to secure 6th place, just 1 spot out of medal contention.

In the 132 class, David Chavez kept his medal string alive by capturing the bronze medal, totaling 805 lbs.

Jacori Turner came up big in the 165 class, totaling 1000 lbs in only his second meet, and taking the gold medal.

In the 181 class, Elias Elizando grabbed the bronze medal and continued to improve his standings with a new total of 1195 lbs.

Also in the 181 class, Esteban Trejo totaled 900 lbs with a 10th place finish, and Oscar Otero totaled 815 lbs and ended with a 13th place finish.

Daniel Garcia snagged a 4th place medal in the 198 class, totaling 1140 lbs., while Marshall Ryder finished 7th with a new total of 1030 lbs.

In the 220 class, Freshman Jose Gonzalez had a rough night, unable to complete any of his squat attempts. Failure to complete any of three attempts of the same lift results in a Bomb Out, leaving the competitor unable to finish lifting.

In the 242 class, Clayton Miller pounded out a 1240 lb total, good enough for 5th place.

Also in the 242, Astin Ledbetter finished the night in 6th place with a 1215 lb total.

Rounding out the Tiger lifters for the night, Micah Shepherd ripped a new total of 1395 lbs, good enough to win the gold in the 275 class.

In the Boys Division, the Tigers worked to secure 6 medals on the night and a 4th place finish out of 9 teams.

In the Girls Division, the Lady Tigers grabbed 6 medals also, and finished their night in 6th place out of 10 teams.

All in all, the tenacity of our Tiger teams was evident with each and every competitor competing and increasing their totals for the season, putting themselves in contention to gain a Regional birth.

As of this posting, 2 Lady Tigers have secured an automatic Regional birth: Nayeli Jaimes and Alexandra Martinez.

With 1 meet left, McKinsee Oviedo (2nd), Arlette DeJesus (2nd), Mariana Gonzalez (6th), Jordan West (8th), Jasmine Landaverde (16th), and Elizabeth Lockett (21st) are all fighting for regional births for the Lady Tigers, while Micah Shepherd (5th), David Chavez (7th), Clayton Miller (9th), Astin Ledbetter (10th), Jacori Turner (12th) and Daniel Garcia (20th) are fighting for regional births as well. The outlook will be a little more clear after Thursday’s Pine Tree meet.

Both teams will compete Thursday, 2/17/2022 at 10 am at Pine Tree HS.
