MPHS Math Team Members Place at TMSCA State
The Mount Pleasant High School UIL Math and Science teams competed in the Texas Math and Science Coaches Association (TMSCA) State Meet during Spring Break on March 15 at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Team members brought multiple awards with one senior earning a scholarship.
In Calculator Applications, the team of Luke Thurman, Julian Chancellor, Yahaira Pina, and Alessandro Greco placed 4th out of 25 teams in the 5A division. Individually, Thurman placed 3rd and Pina was 10th in 12th grade, Chancellor placed 6th and Greco was 9th in 11th grade, and Karen Sandate came in 10th in 10th grade.
In Mathematics, the team of Thurman, Pina, Chancellor, and Tanner Marshall placed 5th out of 23 teams. Individually, Thurman placed 5th in 12th grade and Chancellor was 9th in 11th grade.
Thurman also competed in Number Sense and placed 10th in 12th grade as an individual.
Top Gun Rankings are a combined ranking of all four events. Thurman placed 4th Top Gun in 12th grade, earning a $900 scholarship.
The Texas Math and Science Coaches Association is dedicated to promoting excellence in math and science through competition. Membership is limited to Texas public and private schools, by campus.
The MPHS UIL Academic teams will compete at the district meet on March 28-29 in Whitehouse. The MPHS Math teams are coached by Osias Hernandez and Randy Ballard.
