MPHS Goin’ Gold Band Named Grand Champs in Winnsboro
The Mount Pleasant High School Goin’ Gold Band competed against 16 bands at the Battle for the Spear Marching Classic at Winnsboro High School on Saturday, October 19. At the end of prelims, MPHS received Outstanding Winds and Outstanding 5A Band awards. The field of 17 was cut to 10 finalists who would then compete against each other, regardless of classification.
After marching again in finals, the Goin’ Gold Band was named Grand Champion Band and earned Outstanding Colorguard and the People’s Choice awards.
The Goin’ Gold Band will continue their competition season at the 5A UIL Area competition this Saturday, October 26, at Mesquite Memorial Stadium. The Goin’ Gold Band is directed by Dr. Theodus Luckett III, Karen Luckett, Brian Bass, Sheri Sullivan, Chris Richard, and Agustin Garcia with the Colorguard under the direction of Marty Newman and Peyton McClendon.
