MPHS FFA Competes in Daingerfield
Mount Pleasant High School FFA members competed at the Daingerfield CDE Invitational contest on Monday, February 17. Career Development Events (CDE) build on what is learned in agricultural classes and encourage members to put their knowledge into practice. These events are designed to help a member prepare for a career in agriculture by testing and challenging the student’s technical, leadership, interpersonal and teamwork skills as well as their knowledge of the subject matter.
The team of Samuel Chappell, Jeseth Monreal, Michelle Ramirez, and Xitlaly Sanchez placed 3rd in Nursery/Landscape. This CDE encourages members to apply their landscaping, marketing, and service skills as they complete a written exam, identify various landscaping plant materials, and evaluate plant materials and landscape plans.
In Floriculture, the team of Evelyn Gomez, Emilia Santiago, and Kaelynn Carrillo placed 12th. In this event, students identify and evaluate cut flowers, house plants, flowering plants, floral designs, and complete an exam that tests their knowledge of floral design, propagation, as well as preparation of floral and foliage products for sale.
And in Veterinary Science, Abby Torres placed 11th. Competitors demonstrate their technical competency with small and large animals by completing a written exam, critical-thinking scenario questions, identifications, and hands-on practicums.
MPHS FFA members will attend their next CDE event on March 1 in Gilmer. MPHS FFA advisors are Susie Hearron, Blake Denson, Nicholaus Riecke, and Rance White.
