MPHS FCCLA Students Advance to State
Seven members of the Mount Pleasant High School chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) competed at the February Regional Leadership Conference with two advancing to the state level in April.
Seniors Ashley Garcia and Joselyne Sandoval placed 4th in the Interpersonal Communication event, securing a place at the State Leadership Conference. Their project centered on a workshop for high school students on effective ways to “agree to disagree.” The students were inspired after observing, both on social media and in public settings, how often people struggle to communicate respectfully when opinions differ.
Also competing for MPHS, seniors Colt Covey and Dayanara Pulquero demonstrated their garment construction skills alongside a display board outlining their planning and design process in Fashion Construction. Senior Alexandra Velez competed in Repurpose and Redesign, creating a garment using plastic grocery bags, fabric, paper scraps, and a detailed display board showcasing her redesign work. Senior Abi Pathak participated in the Job Interview event, researching current job openings and practicing responses to potential interview questions posed by a panel of judges. And junior Adriana Hipolito competed in Focus on Children, planning and implementing a Smart Snacks activity with eight-year-olds at Ignite Youth Club in Mount Pleasant.
The FCCLA State Leadership Conference is scheduled for April 9-11 in Dallas. The MPHS FCCLA Advisor is Margaret Bradley.
