Mount Pleasant High School Jazz Band Competes in Texarkana
The Mount Pleasant High School Jazz Band traveled to Texarkana on Friday, April 17 for the 9th annual Four States Jazz Festival at Central Mall. The Jazz Band performed “Feeling Good” by Roger Holmes, “Pick Up the Pieces” by Victor Lopez, and “Days of Wine and Roses” by Dave Barduhn. And out of 14 Jazz Bands, MPHS earned the 2nd place Big Band award. In addition, three members earned Scott Joplin Outstanding Soloist awards including Emi Hobbs for vocals, and Edward Moya and Jayden Adame for drum set.
“This was our first time in many years to attend the Four States Jazz Festival,” said Dr. Theodus Luckett III, MPISD Fine Arts Director. “We did not expect to place at all. Coming in 2nd is a testament to the hard work of these students and their directors. We will definitely be back next year.”
The MPHS Jazz Band is under the direction of Agustin Garcia and Brian Bass with special assistance from Professor Gary Meggs from Henderson State University.
