Softball Standout Zachry Signs With Northwestern
Mount Pleasant Lady Tiger Carson Zachry signed a national letter of intent on Wednesday to play for Northwestern State University. Zachry, an infielder and pitcher, will be a four-year letterman for the Lady Tigers and will finish in the top ten or top five all-time in many offensive categories.
Zachry was named Second Team Infield as a freshman and only improved from there. Her sophomore season she was named First Team Infield, All-East Texas, and All-State while also being named Offensive Player of the Year for the Lady Tigers where she had team highs in hits (52) and a .720 slugging percentage. Her career stats for Mount Pleasant include a .386 batting average, 107 hits, 30 doubles and 9 homeruns and her current numbers rank her top ten in ten offensive categories. Zachry is also very studious earning Academic All-District honors in all three seasons.
Head Coach Jeremy Tarrant has high praise for Zachry. “Carson is a very selfless team player that will play anywhere she’s needed. She works extremely hard both offensively and defensively and knows the game inside and out.” Tarrant has also built a strong program that has seen nine college signees since 2016 and the second Division I signee the past two years. “I feel very blessed that we have had nine players go to the next level, ” said Tarrant. “Those players put in the extra work and played outside of the normal season to get exposure which makes our program better as a whole.”
Zachry will join a Northwestern team that finished 15-7 and 3-0 in conference before their season was canceled. The Lady Demons are coached by Head Coach Donald Pickett.
