The 15-5A All-District girls’ soccer team was recently released with eleven Mount Pleasant players named to the team. The Lady Tigers mustered a third-place finish in district to qualify for the playoffs before being knocked out in the second round by Highland Park. Mount Pleasant finished the season with an overall record of 9-13-2 and district record of 5-5-2, playing a tough pre-district schedule and competing in a tightly contested district race.
Senior captain Cathy Banda was named Co-Defensive Player of the Year. Banda anchored the backline who only allowed 9 goals in 12 district games becoming the main strength of the Lady Tiger team. The backline also included Isabel Cruz, Isabel Gonzales, and Reagan Houchin.
The Lady Tigers also captured the Goalkeeper of the Year award with Senior Jaycee Woods stopping most everything that came her way. Woods only conceded 3 goals in district play and was credited with 5.5 shutouts.
Mount Pleasant had three players earn 1st Team All-District. Senior Lessete Cruz scored 5 goals, 2 assists in district and added the only goal in the Lady Tigers playoff win over Lufkin. Isabel Cruz added 2 assists in district and was named to the team as well as junior Haylee Martinez who notched 6 goals and 6 assists.
Sophomore Isabel Gonzales had a nice showing at the varsity level this season with 2 assists earning 2nd Team All-District honors. Also on the second team was sophomore Leilani Jimenez leading the Lady Tigers with 7 goals and adding 5 assists. Another sophomore, Xitlali Rivas rounded out the second team honors with 3 goals and 1 assist during district.
Seniors Faith Logan, Jaylene Zuniga, and Lucy Molina all earned Honorable Mention helping the Lady Tigers to their fourth straight playoff appearance.
The Lady Tigers are coached by head coach David Zaldivar and assistants Isaac Guzman, Adriana Ortiz, and Jesus Robles.
