MPHS JV and Varsity Cheerleaders Attend Camp in Grapevine
The Mount Pleasant High School Cheerleaders attended the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) cheer camp at The Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center in Grapevine from May 29-June 1. Both squads brought home multiple team and individual awards.
As an entire program, Mount Pleasant High School won the prestigious Top Banana Award. This is the highest honor given at camp, awarded to the single program that goes above and beyond, showing immense school spirit, excellent sportsmanship, and setting a great example for everyone around them.
The JV squad had three camp evaluations including a sideline spirit routine, the camp routine, and an overall camp evaluation, receiving superior ribbons, the highest rating they could receive, for all three routines. The JV team placed 1st in sideline spirit, 2nd in camp routine, and 3rd in the overall camp evaluation. They also received the Spirit Stick every day of camp, the ultimate daily symbol of teamwork and attitude. Finally, they were awarded the “Most Improved JV Team” of the entire camp.
The Varsity cheerleaders also had three camp evaluations and received three superior ribbons. They placed 2nd in camp routine, 3rd in the overall camp evaluation, and 4th in sideline spirit. They also received the Spirit Stick every day of camp for maintaining peak energy and positive sportsmanship throughout camp.
Four cheerleaders earned All-American accolades. Those selected are recognized among the top performers at camp for their athleticism, crowd-leading skills, and overall excellence. In addition to an All-American medal and certificate, they are invited to participate in events such as the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade, the London New Year’s Day Parade, the Varsity Spirit Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade in Hawaii, and the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl Halftime Show in Orlando, just to name a few. MPHS All-Americans are Varsity cheerleaders Carly Horn and Jasani Inostros with JV All-Americans Athena Rideout and McKynlee Tedford.
Additionally, Horn was chosen for the prestigious Pin it Forward award, a special recognition focused entirely on character and leadership, given to athletes who stand out for their kindness and for lifting up participants from other schools.
The cheerleaders will now turn their attention to preparing for football and volleyball season. They are coached by Marissa Marr.
