The Mount Pleasant High School Tiger golf team played in the District 10-5A tournament at Tempest Golf Club in Gladewater on March 31 and April1, placing 2nd as a team and securing a spot at the Regional tournament.

At the end of day one, the Tigers were in 2nd place as a team, shooting 323, just one stroke ahead of 3rd place Hallsville. Individually, senior Jacob Baker was 2 shots back from 1st place.

On day two, the Tigers came out hot. After the first five holes, junior Hogan Horn was 3 under, Baker was 1 under, and senior Brandon Carter was 1 under. The team had an excellent second day shooting 305 and earning 2nd place as a team, qualifying them to play in the Regional tournament. Individually, Baker caught fire midway in the second round with two birdies and an eagle to finish that round at 5 under to claim the District Championship with a two-day total of 140. Horn’s great second round of 76 moved him into 6th place with a two-day total of 154. Carter also had a great second day shooting 77 and a tournament total 161. Freshman Jake Anderson’s first day score kept the Tigers in the tournament with a two-day total of 176. And junior Christian Cruz had one of his best rounds of golf the second day, shooting 85 and helping secure 2nd place for the Tigers.

Senior Kylee Strickland will compete in the Girls’ Regional Tournament at Pottsboro on April 15 – 16. And the Tigers will follow, also at Pottsboro, on April 13 and 14. MPHS golf is coached by Benny Blaser.
