Mount Pleasant High School Winter Guards Win First Competition
Three Mount Pleasant High School Winter Guard teams traveled to Prairiland High School for their first Winter Guard competition of the season, the Four States Performing Arts Association contest, on Friday, January 30. Mount Pleasant ISD has a Winter Guard team at Wallace Middle School, two at Mount Pleasant Junior High, and three at Mount Pleasant High School, including the Varsity, Gold, and Onyx teams.
The Mount Pleasant High School Varsity placed 1st in the Scholastic A classification. The Varsity show is based on the TV series, Game of Thrones, and features a giant throne made of swords designed and created by Mount Pleasant High School Engineering and Ag Mechanics teachers and students.
Mount Pleasant High School Onyx placed 1st in the Novice classification, more than 9 points ahead of 2nd place, which will move them up a classification in future competitions. Their show, Tinkerbell, is based on the characters from Pixie Hollow.
Mount Pleasant High School Gold placed 3rd in the Regional A classification, just .01 behind 2nd place. Their show is titled “Wednesday, Revisited” based on the Netflix show about the character in the Addams Family.
The MPISD Winter Guards will compete and host the next Four States Performing Arts Association contest on Saturday, February 7 in Willie Williams Gym at MPHS. This contest features 32 teams including all five MPISD Winter Guards. The High School Guards are under the direction of Marty Newman, the Junior Guards are directed by Peyton McClendon, and the Wallace Middle School Winter Guard is under the direction of Gracie McClendon.
