Offense gets the glory, but the defense has been the story for the Tigers in the first two games of the young season. The Tiger defense has yet to allow more than one score to its opponents and limited Sherman to only 132 yards of total offense Friday night while turning the Bearcats over four times. The win moves the Tigers to 2-0 as they continue to fine tune both sides of the ball before district play begins in a couple of weeks.

Jaylen Williams got things started early in the first quarter for the Tigers scoring on a 3-yard touchdown run, his second touchdown of the season. The Tiger defense also secured their first turnover on a Ken’Travion Evans interception that kept Sherman off the scoreboard. The second quarter opened with an Edward Wilder 8-yard touchdown. The touchdown was one of two on the night for Wilder who also ran for 156 yards on 22 carries to pace the Tigers. A Tiger fumble in their own territory led to Sherman’s only score of the night, a 23-yard pass with the extra point tagged on. Tre Emory would make up for the theft with a fumble recovery of his own. Place kicker Joshua Gongora added on a 25-yard field goal to take the Tigers into the locker room at the half up 17-7.

The second half was more of the same for the Tigers as the defense tightened the bolts and did not allow Sherman any progress. Wilder scored his second touchdown in the third quarter, a 35-yard scamper down the sideline to set up the final score. The defense would tack on two more interceptions by Devin Smith and Layne Pinckard to seal the win. Yhari Hudson led the Tiger D with 6 solo tackles and 2 sacks.

The Tigers(2-0) will travel to Greenville(1-1) next Friday night with game time set for 7:30 PM. Greenville knocked off Henderson in their opening game but are coming off a loss to Frisco Liberty last week. Mount Pleasant will begin district play in two weeks versus Texas High at home.
