Mount Pleasant ISD Destination Imagination (DI) continued their award-winning year as five MPISD teams competed against over 400 teams at Lonestar Finals, the largest single day Destination Imagination Tournament in the world, on March 28-29 at the University of Texas at Arlington. The awards ceremony was held at Maverick Stadium at UTA and two MPISD teams learned they would advance to Global Finals this summer.

Advancing to Global Finals are the “Six Spectacular Sandwiches” from P.E. Wallace Middle School. After claiming the Regional Championship, the team placed 2nd at State. Team members include Kinlee Castro, Kate Cluley, Jake Jones, Annalie Mata, Lane Richardson, and Mailen Tapia.

Also advancing to Global Finals are the “Terrifying Tigers” from Annie Sims Elementary School. After claiming the Regional Championship, the team placed 5th at State. Team members include Alexa Cano, Camila Cates, Laura Ethridge, Sam Jones, Zuleymi Mendoza.

Two-time Global Final qualifiers representing E.C. Brice Elementary and Wallace Middle School, the Rockstar Penguins (formerly known as the Mystical Penguins in 2024 and the Smart Penguins Going Bananas in 2023) placed 10th at State. Team members include Kaylyn Andrade, Judah Deal, Anna Henry, and Avalyn Netro from Wallace, and Callie Dimon from Brice.

The 2023 Global Finalists from Mount Pleasant Junior High, “Watch Out You Need to Duck!” (known as The Unquackable Pduckadactyls in 2024 and as the Comeback Rubber Duckies in 2023), placed 11th at State. Team members include Lily Henry, Jannahi Castro, Aldo Orona, Ivan Flores, and Jonathan Williams.

And newcomers representing P.E. Wallace Middle School, “The Explosive Capybobas” place 2nd at Regionals and 14th at State. Team members include Allison Blackburn, Dannen Carroll, Shane Dimon, Ivania Jimenez, Nayeli Pulquero, Jedidiah Tatman, and Emmalyn Thurman.

The DI Global Finals will be May 22-25 in Kansas City, MO. The MPISD State advancing and Global Final Destination Imagination Teams are coached by Jamie King. Parent volunteers include Carrie Henry, Sayra Netro, Christi Thurman, Jack Jones, and Tommie Castro.
