MPISD Adopts Lowest Tax Rate Since the 1980s
At their regular meeting Monday night, the MPISD Board of Trustees voted to reduce the current tax rate from $.8952 to $.8857 for the coming year, the lowest tax rate in more than 30 years for the second straight year. The total tax rate, a reduction of $.0095, includes $.6669 for maintenance and operations (M&O) and $0.2188 for interest and sinking (I&S). M&O funds provide for the district’s day-to-day operations while the I&S provides funds for debt services.
“We have just adopted the lowest tax rate since 1988 at Mount Pleasant ISD,” said MPISD Superintendent, Judd Marshall. “ We have done this because of a lot of hard work from our administration and chief financial officer. We understand that everyone’s cost of living is really high right now, and we wanted to do everything we can do to help give some money back to our taxpayers.”
