MPHS Jazz Band Students Make All-Region Jazz Band

Eight Mt. Pleasant High School Goin’ Gold Band members have earned placement in the All-Region Honor Jazz Band. Three Sophomores (Jesus Garrett – trombone, Carlos Lopez -trombone and Noah Wall – trombone), two Juniors (Emily Mott – tenor saxophone and Matthew Shelton – drums) and three Seniors (Fabian Fernandez – trombone, Juan Garcia – piano and Alicengrace Gray – trumpet) each auditioned individually before a panel of judges in Texarkana recently.

“I am extremely proud of this group of musicians,” said MPHS Jazz Band Director Barry Tagg. “They all worked hard to prepare for the tryouts and their hard work has paid off. This was also a great year for the MPHS Jazz Band at the auditions. This year’s eight is double the number of students who made All-Region last year and it represents almost half of our entire jazz band of 17 members. This is also the second year Alicengrace and Fabian have qualified for the All-Region Jazz Band. Both were selected as alternates their sophomore years.”

The MPHS students will perform at the TMEA Region IV Middle School/Freshman/Jazz Clinic & Concert on Saturday, December 12th, 2015 at Marshall High School.
