Tigers and Lady Tigers Perform Well at Regionals
Several Mount Pleasant Tigers and one Lady Tiger traveled to Arlington last weekend to compete in the UIL Region 2 track meet with hopes of advancing to the state tournament in Austin. Junior Xavier Hills achieved that goal by bounding 47′-11″ for second place in the triple jump. This places Hills as one of only eight jumpers advancing to the state meet held at the University of Texas in Austin. Several other Tigers placed third with a chance of an at-large bid to the state tournament. Those will be announced later this week.
Tre Emory placed third in shot put with a toss of 50′-9.5″ and Will Hills finished third in triple jump at 47′-8″. Xavier Hills also finished third in high jump with a leap of 6′-4″. Other finishers were Daniel Robles who placed fifth in the two-mile at 9:56.4 and sixth in the mile at 4:32.22. Skyler Guereca ran the 110m hurdles and the 300m hurdles finishing tenth and fourteenth respectively with times of 15.17 and 43.77. Dylan Bennett placed seventh in the 100m dash with a time of 10.93 and LaTristan Thompson placed fifteenth in the 200m dash at 22.63. Astin Ledbetter took thirteenth in the discus with a sling of 129′-2″. Ladi Guereca was the lone Lady Tiger to advance to regionals where she placed sixth in triple jump with a personal record jump of 37′-2.5″ and placed twelfth in long jump with a leap of 16′-2″.
The 2022 UIL State Track Meet will take place May 12-14 at Mike Myers Stadium in Austin.
