The MPISD Board of Trustees met this week to continue planning for the 2020-2021 school year.  Below are the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions:

When do we have to decide if our student will be doing online or in person learning?

We have moved that deadline back to Monday, August 17th to give our families more time to make that decision.

Can a student change from online learning at home to in-person classes?

ELEMENTARY – (CDC-4th grade)

Yes, at the end of 2 weeks.

Example:

Student A begins work on August 19th online at home but changes her mind and wants to return to school in person.  Student A can change to in-person school at the end of the first two weeks of school.

Student B begins work in person on August 19th but has concerns and changes to online classes at home after a few days.  That student cannot change back to in-person learning for two weeks from the day they began online work.

SECONDARY – (5th-12th grade)

Yes, at the end of a six weeks grading period.

Example:

Student A begins work on August 19th online at home but changes her mind and wants to return to school in person.  Student A can change to in-person school at the end of the six weeks grading period.

Student B begins work in person on August 19th but has concerns and changes to online classes at home after a few days.  That student cannot return to in-person learning until the end of the six weeks grading period.

Can a student change from in-person classes to online learning at home?

Yes a student may change to online at any time.  See above for coming back to in-person classes.

Can a student take classes online at home and still participate in extracurricular activities?

MPISD will not allow remote students to participate in extracurricular activities unless the student has a pre-existing medical condition. In that case, the student can fill out a waiver to be submitted for approval.

What is the mask requirement?

All MPISD staff will be required to wear masks.

For elementary students (CDC-4th grade), masks are encouraged but not required.

For secondary students (5th-12th grade), masks are required.
