Students at Wallace Middle School spent part of October creating coffee sleeves for Jo’s celebrating Unity Day, a national day of building commUNITY through kindness, acceptance, and inclusion to prevent bullying. The sleeves were placed on drinks all day on Wednesday, October 16, spreading positive messages to everyone who came in that day.

Wallace Communities in Schools Coordinator, Briceida Fernandez, came up with the unique project that would extend past Wallace Middle School and into our community. “The coffee sleeve project was an idea I created for Unity Day to get the whole campus involved in a kindness project,” said Fernandez. “Wallace students spent the beginning of October during their breakfast time, while working on their coffee sleeves, engaging in conversations about ways they could be kind and united against bullying. This was a perfect example of Wallace students engaging in one act of kindness that could create a ripple effect, not just inside our campus, but in our community. I read all the coffee sleeves the students made and it brought me so much joy. I can only imagine the joy it has brought our community. This project was a success that we want to continue doing next year!”
