P.E. Wallace Middle School 5th graders “fished” in their science classes trying to replicate how birds catch fish in order to eat.
This hands-on vocabulary lesson is used to teach about the structure (physical adaptation) and function of bird beaks. They learned that the way beaks are made (structure) allow certain functions of the beak (catching and eating fish).
Students used clothespins, spoons, tweezers, and chopsticks to try and catch their prey.
