The Mount Pleasant Tiger cross country team competed in the UIL 5A Regional meet this week with two runners qualifying for the state meet. Senior Geovanni Calderon and junior Lee Davis both advanced finishing 20th and 21st respectively. The top four teams and top ten individuals not on an advancing team qualify for the state meet to be held in Round Rock, TX on November 5th.

With a total of 177 runners in the race, Calderon ran an 18:26.93 pacing his mile at 5:45 and Davis was close behind finishing at 18:29.35, good for a mile time of 5:46. The Mount Pleasant team finished 7th overall out of 33 teams in the competition. Senior Gilberth Landaverde finished third on the team and 48th overall, crossing the line with a time of 19:17.81 while senior Christopher Escobar came in 70th at 19:39.31. Sophomore Aidyn Botello performed admirably coming in 83rd with a time of 20:05.89 and freshman Enrique Marrufo finished 121st with a time of 20:48.77. Alex Rivera rounded out the Mount Pleasant team with a 151st place finish at 21:57.86.

The 5A state meet will be held at Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock with start time set for 10:40 AM. The Mount Pleasant cross-country team is coached by Jesus Garcia.
