Senior Forward Dexter Roberson has been the epitome of sacrifice this season. Not only is he one of the best rebounders for the Tigers at 5.5 RPG, but he is impressively averaging 2.3 charges taken per game. A charge is called when an offensive player makes excessive contact to and through the defender. This action takes a ton of sacrifice by the defensive player as Roberson’s bumps and bruises can attest to.

Roberson was recently mentioned in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches monthly newsletter which is sent out to over 4500 coaches across the state. Here is the excerpt from the newsletter:

” Mount Pleasant senior Dexter Roberson had a unique double double in a game against Liberty-Eylau on December 22. Roberson scored 12 points to go along with 10 charges taken. Last year Dexter took 30 charges for the season and he already has 34 in the first 12 games thanks to the Liberty-Eylau game. As amazing as taking 10 charges in a game is finding a set of referees that will call that many. Congratulations to Dexter and the officials. Joey Chism is the Mount Pleasant coach.”

Dexter has now reached 63 charges taken on the season in 27 games. His record setting 10 charges taken in a game is also accompanied by taking 5 charges in a game three times this season as well as three games where he took 4 charges.

Roberson embodies the sacrifice and effort that the Tiger coaches require of their players and is a key component of the success they have had this year.
