MPHS Theatre Named Alternates in UIL One Act Play Competition
The Mount Pleasant High School Theatre department competed in the District 15-5A UIL One Act play competition on Friday, March 14 at Texas High in Texarkana. The cast and crew placed 4th making them the first alternates to the bi-district round of competition.
In addition to their alternate placement as a group, four members of the cast and crew earned individual accolades. Senior Jeffrey Bond was named to the All-Star Cast. Seniors Dawson Hernandez and Gracie Martinez were named Honorable Mention All-Star Cast. And sophomore Allison Mendoza received the Honorable Mention All-Star Tech award.
MPHS Theatre competed with their production of The Importance of Being Ernest by Oscar Wilde. Set in England during the late 19th century, the play follows the lives of two young men, Jack Worthing and Algernon Moncrieff, who adopt fictional identities to escape social obligations. Jack invents a brother named Ernest, while Algernon creates an invalid friend named Bunbury. The plot unfolds with mistaken identities, clever wordplay, and humorous social commentary.
The cast featured Dawson Hernandez as John Worthing, J.P, Jeffrey Bond as Algernon Moncrieff, Jose Jimenez as Rev. Canon Chasuble, D.D, Joey Dunn as Lane, Manservant, Gracie Martinez as Lady Bracknell, Isabella Flores as Hon. Gwendolen
Fairfax, Emma Sanders as Cecily Cardew, Addison McQueen as Miss Prism, Governess, and Sadera Lampard as Merriman, and Danika Beckham.
The Crew included Allison Mendoza, Sara Guerrero, Zaid Perez, Caitlyn (Sunni) Anderson, Kevin Mendoza, and Conner Means.
The MPHS One Act play was directed by Crystal Francis with Technical Director Crystalla Anderson.
