All four MPISD Winterguard teams traveled to Pine Tree High School in Longview, TX on Saturday, February 26. After having their first competition of the season cancelled due to the weather, the MPHS JVB and MPJH Junior Guard teams had their first performance of the season, while the JVA and Varsity teams continued the success they had already seen this year.

The MPJH Junior Guard received 1st place in the Cadet class. The Mount Pleasant High School JVB team received 1st place in the Novice class and scored high enough to promote them to the next classification. The MPHS JVA team received 1st place in the Scholastic A classification. And the Varsity team received 2nd place in the National A division.

“All four teams had a wonderful performance,” said MPHS Guard Director, Cristian Gomez. “It was great seeing the Junior Guard and JV B teams finally perform in front of an audience and receive a positive reaction from the judges and the audience.”

“These students have worked tremendously hard and for every student on this team, this was their very first competition,” said MPJH Junior Guard Director, Presley McClendon. “I am blown away by their work ethic and dedication and I can’t wait to see how far they can go. Mount Pleasant’s Junior Varsity B team has 9 junior high members that had one year of experience in color guard and were asked to join the high school level team. These students from high school and junior high worked hard under Victor Diaz and placed 1st in their division. This team did so well, they were moved up a ranking and will now compete at a higher level for future competitions.”

The JV A and Varsity team will travel to Austin, TX to compete at the Winterguard International Austin Regional this weekend.
