ACT/SAT Information
Today I would like to provide you with some information concerning ACT and SAT registrations and college admission. Texas Education Code (TEC), §51.803 states that students in the top 10% of the graduating class are automatically admitted to State of Texas colleges and universities (University of Texas admits only top 8% automatically). Students who qualify for automatic admission must still complete all registration applications and credentials prior to the deadlines.
Because of this law, students sometimes don’t think it really matters what they score on the ACT or the SAT. However, those scores may be used for course placement when determining college readiness. In addition the scores may be used when applying for scholarships.
I have attached information concerning test dates and registration deadlines and fees for both ACT and SAT. I have also included some other documents that you might want to read to help you decide which test you need to take.
It is important to begin to take these tests early (if you haven’t already). Early completion of the test will allow you time to re-take in order to try to improve your score.
Registration and payment of fees is done online at the website indicated on the date summary page.
