MPHS Powerlifting Opens Season in Lindale
The Mount Pleasant High School Powerlifters opened their season on Thursday, January 15 in Lindale. The Tigers closed out the night with a 2nd place finish as a team with the Lady Tigers placing 4th. Sixteen MPHS lifters placed in the top 5 within their respective weight classes, earning points for their teams and medals as individuals.
For the Tigers, eight out the twelve participants earned a medal. Five Tigers placed 1st in their weight classes including Edward Moya, Daniel Castillo, Tony Grant, Bruno De Leon, and Jose Gonzalez. Isaiah Shepard and Zac Newman both placed 2nd in their respective weight classes. And Humberto Damian placed 3rd in his weight class to round out the medals for the Tigers.
The Lady Tigers also had eight medalists. Diana Ramirez placed 1st in her weight class. Taking home 2nd place medals in their respective weight classes were Valerie Cassio, Kelly Castillo, and Monserrat Gonzalez. Placing 3rd for the Lady Tigers were Linnet Cuellar, Helen Munoz, and Kace Moreno in their weight classes. And rounding out the medals for the Lady Tigers was Cambria Malone placing 5th in her weight class.
The JV and Varsity teams will be back in action on Friday, January 30 at their home meet in the Mount Pleasant Junior High gym. MPHS Powerlifting is coached by Don Woods and Blake Lodes.
