Mount Pleasant High School Junior Nathon Segovia, son of Jose and Jehovana Segovia, has been selected to participate in the Texas High School Aerospace Scholars (HAS) Program. HAS is an interactive online learning experience highlighted by a weeklong study at NASA’s Johnson Space Center.
Segovia will be studying mathematics, science, engineering, and computer science by interacting with engineers at NASA. Upon successful completion of the online portion of the program, he will serve an internship onsite at NASA’s Johnson Space Center.
Segovia is a member of National Honor Society, Texas Forensic Association, Duke University Academic Talent Search, and is the Captain of the MPHS UIL Debate and Speech team. He is also a member of the UIL Math and Science team and placed 13th in the state at the Texas Math and Science Coaches Association State meet.
He was an Assistant Drum Major for the MPHS Goin’ Gold Band, Freshman Class Treasurer, and Sophomore Class President.
Students are selected to participate in the program by their state legislator through a very competitive process. These students are currently in their junior year of high school with an interest and aptitude for mathematics, science, engineering, or computer science.
