Eleven Mount Pleasant High School Health Science students have earned Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) credentials from the State of Texas. With the certification, the students are qualified to work in nursing homes, hospitals and Home Health Agencies.

Maria Barraza, Jennifer DeLaCruz, Karina Delacruz, Haley Fennewald, Fernando Garcia, Norma Hanson, Addie Jackson, Dez’rae Nickerson, Alicia Ramirez, Jenny Reeder and JT Watson are all now state-certified CNA’s.

“These students are graduating from high school with the credentials that will allow them to apply for entry-level positions in the health care field,” said MPISD Director of Communication Dr. Judi Saxton. “Whether they immediately enter the job market or continue their education at a community college or university, they have the job skills and credentials necessary to join the work force. The CNA program is just one of many in the MPHS Career and Technology Education Department that offers students the opportunity to earn work-related credentials while still in high school.”

The Career and Technology Department at MPHS offers a number of Practicums through the Health Science program. The Certified Nurse Assistant practicum combines clinical experiences in long-term care settings and classroom time to prepare for the CNA test.
