Fifty-one Mount Pleasant Junior High School students are now members of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) following the official induction ceremony on Monday, November 8 in the Mount Pleasant High School auditorium. The new members join the 46 returning eighth-grade members.

The new NJHS officers discussed the qualities of a National Junior Honor Society member in the traditional candle lighting ceremony. The 2021-2022 NJHS officers are President Aaliyah Delarosa, Vice-President Sebastian Cano, Secretary Esmeralda Perez, Treasurer Alessandro Greco, Historian Alondra Santos, Parliamentarian Bruno DeLeon, and Sergeant at Arms Brissia Alvarez. Mount Pleasant High School National Honor Society Historian, Taylor Hubbs, was the guest speaker. She reminded the students that the word “character” has two c’s—the first standing for choice and the second for consequence. She challenged the new inductees and the returning members to always be of good character.

To be a member of the MPJH chapter of the National Junior Honor Society, students had to have a 91 average, demonstrate leadership ability, good character, citizenship, and participate in community service. They also had to be recommended by a teacher on the MPJH campus. Students must maintain these standards to remain a member of the National Junior Honor Society.
