Mount Pleasant JH XC Finishes Third and Fifth

The Tiger and Lady Tiger Junior High cross-country runners traveled to Hallsville last weekend to compete in the district meet which would be the last meet of the season. Both teams performed well with the boys finishing in third overall and the girls posting a fifth-place team finish.

The boys team mustered 75 points finishing behind Marshall (52 pts) and Pine Tree (36 pts). Enrique Marrufo secured the best finish for Mount Pleasant in fifth place overall with a time of 12:49. Gilbily Landaverde also finished in the top ten with an eighth-place finish and time of 13:20.5. Other finishers were Charlie Hernandez (13th, 13:51.8), Kevin Pineda (23rd, 14:29.6), Conley Johnson (28th, 14:51.1), Isaac Hernandez (45th, 16:25.5), and Eric Romero (49th, 16:49.6).

The Lady Tigers posted one of their best races of the season with 84 points just behind Marshall (82 pts) and Hallsville (77 pts). Mount Pleasant’s top finisher was Alexia Hawkins who finished third overall and put up a time of 15:05.1. Marybeth Snyder finished inside the top fifteen at 14th place with a time of 16:17.7. Other finishers were Jennifer Luna (21st, 17:03.8), Dalia Balderas (22nd, 17:09.8), Alin Alvarado (24th, 17:14.3), Aniyah Asagba (45th, 20:01.1), Diana Ramirez (47th, 21:00.2), Atalee Gonzalez (50th, 22:14.7), and Wendy Valdez (55th, 23:09.8).

The junior high cross-country team is coached by Jesus Garcia and Jermaine Carpenter.
