The Mount Pleasant Tiger tennis team had an encouraging start to their year as they began their fall season on Thursday at Marshall. The first semester season consists of team tennis which has each player competing in a singles and doubles match. Mount Pleasant went a perfect 12-0 winning every match they played against the Mavericks.
In boys’ singles Donovan Santana pulled out a 9-7 victory in one of the most tightly contested matches of the day. Santana along with partner Jose Fuentes, who won his singles’ match 8-4, also won their doubles match 9-7. Hunter McGee rounded out the boys singles with an 8-1 victory.
In girls’ singles, Sidney Beles, Isabel Garza, Merlin Cardona, and Galilea Torres all shutout their opponent 8-0 while Brianne Davis won her top seeded match 8-2. On the doubles side, the duo of Davis and Beles won 8-0 and Garza and Abigail Phelan won by the same score.
The only mixed doubles match of the day saw Mount Pleasant’s Kevin Ortiz and Annie Munoz come out on top 8-2 to complete the sweep.
The Tigers, coached by Judy Coffey and Brian Williams, will host Hallsville this Thursday, September 9 beginning at 3:30 PM.
