Both the JV and Varsity teams took down Pine Tree on Tuesday with the Varsity earning a much-needed district victory. The Tigers used a fifth inning rally to take the lead and held off the Pirates for the final two innings. The win improves Mount Pleasant’s overall record to 7-12-1 and their district record to 1-5.
Pine Tree jumped out to a 2-0 lead after two innings. Layne Pinckard singled home a run in the third inning to cut the lead to 2-1 but Pine Tree would answer with three runs in the fourth to increase their lead to 5-1. The Tigers would answer in the bottom of the inning scoring four runs to tie the ballgame at 5-5. A Pinckard RBI single followed by a Braden Duff three-run home run supplied the scoring for the Tigers. Mount Pleasant would score two more runs on Brock Cooper’s two-run double the next inning to take the 7-5 lead.
The Tigers picked up seven hits on the night with Cooper, Pinckard, and Duff all notching two hits. Jerrius Vickers also added an RBI single. Baker Peterson walked and scored twice, and Duff led the Tigers with three runs scored. Keller Thompson started on the bump for the Tigers pitching three innings with three strikeouts and gave up three earned runs. Cooper closed out the final four innings giving up only three hits, a walk, and ringing up four strikeouts.
The JV blanked Pine Tree 10-0. Mason McMinn pitched the complete game shutout and got plenty of run support from his teammates. Drew Dyke provided the big blow with his first home run of the season and Payton Chism added on with a run-scoring single.
The Tigers will face off with the Wildcats at Sulphur Springs on Friday with the first pitch set for 7:00 PM.
